What is a Same-day CEREC Crown?
At Mickleham Dental, we use CEREC (Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics), an advanced technology that combines 3D imaging software, CAD technology and a milling machine to manufacture Dental Restorations to precise create custom-made natural looking restorations in a one single visit.
Restoration types available include Porcelain Crowns, Dental Bridges and Large Fillings Called Inlays And Onlays And Even Restoring Old Amalgam Fillings.
The ceramic material is shade matched to the existing colour and shape of your natural teeth, so the restorations will blend seamlessly creating a beautiful full smile.
The Process of a Same-Day Dental Crown
There are multiple steps in the process of creating a beautiful same-day crown using cerec technology.
Your Dentist at Mickleham Dental, will prepare your tooth for the restoration. the preparation depends on the restoration type, but can this can include removing decay or old filling material, and/or restoring the existing tooth structure so it can support the restoration.
Then, a special camera then takes a 3d image of the tooth inside your mouth (cad), where your dentist then designs the restoration on the computer screen using a virtual 3d model of your tooth. This allows them to customise the design to exactly fit your clinical needs and wants.
Once both you and your dentist are happy with the design, the data for the model is then electronically sent to our on-site milling machine, which uses precise cutting burrs to fabricate the restoration to your exact specifications.
Within minutes the milling is complete and the restoration is ready to be cemented into place, once the shade, fit and design has been checked and adjusted if required.
